Guide Introduction:
The purpose of this guide is to give potential and current Sentinel players a good foundation to build on.   It will focus base mechanics and gameplay up to level 20.  It will not cover skill tree builds.  An advanced guide will follow this one that will analyze the different skill trees in the class.
 

With Star Wars the Old Republic’s Early Access upon us, it is time for players to upgrade their codex with new terminology.  The SWTOR beta chat channels, as well as SWTOR message boards and SWTOR podcasts, are filled with people using WoW terminology to describe items/mechanics in SWTOR .  Well it’s time to leave Azeroth behind .  Since WoW is the mothership of MMOs for many people, it is understandable that many people use WoW terms as a frame of reference. 

Now since this Death Star is quite operational, it is time for a Force Rosetta Stone.

Reading fansites, forums, talking with players and listening to podcasts, I am witnessing a phenomena that I am also a part of.  There are many people trading in their traditional play style or class type for a new one.

With a new game brings a fresh beginning in a lot of ways.  A new community, new game mechanics and new players, even if you are playing with friends from a previous game.  With that, a chance for a fresh start.  A chance to leave behind that character and world you have been playing.  To lay down the shackles of your guild responsibility.  Dare I say, a New Hope?

There are few more iconic characters in pop culture than the Jedi.  A superhero of sorts with a sweet glowing sword (lightsaber), magic powers (the force), deflecting any laser fire that might come his way, fearlessly wading into any battle, with all confidence he will not be defeated….  However in SWTOR, this is not the Jedi Knight you will be playing.

As more and more video footage that comes out, I find the Jedi is not looking like the all powerful superhero I had hoped to play.  This is not a movie or a single player RPG where such a larger than life character can exist and single-highhandedly save the universe.  No SWTOR is a Massively Multilayer Online  Role Playing Game.  Where lots of players are playing lots of classes and they will not sit idly by and allow such a class to exist.  There is a four letter word that exists in the MMORPG universe and SWTOR is not oblivious to it, Balance.

Yesterday’s lifting of the closed beta media embargo, where several media outlets were able to play the first 20 or so levels on the Republic side of SWTOR, launched a cavalcade of tweets, +1s, Likes and every other social media pushpin presses.  I have surveyed the landscape and pulled out the things I found interesting relating to the Jedi Knight class.
